Rocks and Keys watercolor Rocks and Keys is sometimes referred to as "Pop Rocks" by Heath. One summer when pop art attracted his interest, he accidentally dropped his keys on the pavement. The resulting painting demonstrates that inspiration can come at unexpected moments. Unlike many pop art works, which often possess flat or simple backgrounds, Heath painted highly detailed gravel that displays his watercolor skills. He also wanted to create more ambiguity to coincide with the humor of the notion that Superman lost his keys. Heath intended Rocks and Keys to be "super" photo-realistic; and, indeed, it is often mistaken to be a photograph. |
